Beardslee Waites Architects, or BWA, is an architectural firm providing not only complete design, presentation, documentation, and constructability services but also feasibility, assessment, and sustainability research and reporting.
Partners Scott Beardslee and Jody Waites have worked together for nearly 30 years, beginning in 1998 when they completed a joint thesis project for their Master of Architecture Degrees at the University of Texas, Austin. Since then, the two have had a history of providing thoughtful design solutions, including time with top design firms in Austin, Chicago, and New York City, and fifteen years executing successful projects together as BWA. BWA has had projects showcased in Interior Design Magazine, New York Living, on HGTV, and in various regional and city-specific periodicals. Our design expertise covers most project types, from large institutional facilities to commercial showcases and high-end single-family residences.
Meet Our Team!
Scott and Jody first met in 1996 while pursuing their Master’s degrees in Architecture at the University of Texas in Austin. The two seemed like an unlikely pair. Scott was from Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. Jody was from Charleston, South Carolina. However, after admiring and respecting each other’s work for the first two years of their studies, the two decided to team up and create their final third-year thesis together. After completing a highly successful project that was met with many accolades, they graduated and left the University to pursue their careers. After only a few years, the two found themselves both in New York City. After working for separate firms in New York for a few years, they decided to team up once again and formed Beardslee Waites Architects.
Scott Beardslee
My career in Architecture has spanned twenty-five years, including five running a practice in Brooklyn, NY. The last fifteen spent as a Principal for a Texas-based architecture firm. I was responsible for building a higher education practice and rebuilding the firm’s Austin office. I finished my time with this company as their Director of Emerging Markets.
I love competition and enjoy the intersection of creative work and analytic rigor. New global trends in technology have profoundly influenced my attitude toward the architectural field.

Jody Waites
I began my career, after graduating from Clemson University in SC, as a guy Friday at a boutique architectural firm in New York City. After several years with the firm, I made my way from guy Friday to lead designer. After the owner of the firm decided to retire, I went on to prove myself as a lead designer at two other firms, with projects ranging from brownstone renovations in NYC to a 300-bed dormitory in TX, before rejoining Scott Beardslee to form Beardslee Waites Architects.
I enjoy the challenge of trying to exceed the design and constructability expectations of all involved in each project we pursue.
